David Beckham has tipped Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or over England’s Harry Kane.The Inter Miami co-owner thinks the Argentina legend should win the prestigious award after he was nominated on the 30-player shortlist.The 39-year-old moved to the MLS side in 2023 and won his eighth Ballon d’Or.The 39-year-old has won the Ballon d’Or eight times, and the former England captain believes he should win it again following his brilliant World Cup.The Argentina international scored eight goals and provided four assists, to help his country reach the final against Spain.He is the second-highest goalscorer in World Cup history with 21 goals, one behind France’s Kylian Mbappe.Beckham made his comments after Messi scored his 100th goal for Inter Miami on Wednesday in a 2-0 victory in the Campeones Cup final.Beckham said: “I think when you see him do things like this tonight, when you see him have the World Cup that he’s had, it’s not luck that he’s being considered for the Ballon d’Or again“It’s not luck because he was probably the best player in the tournament. He had an incredible year last year.“He came into that tournament in the World Cup, and like you’ve just said, 39 years old, to affect a World Cup and every game the way he did. That’s special. There’s no one at 39 that’s doing that and doing it at that level“So he deserves to be considered for the Ballon d’Or.
