Metrolinx launched a new set of Lake Ontario–themed PRESTO cards, a limited‑edition release designed to tap into local pride and celebrate one of the province’s most recognizable landmarks. The PRESTO cards, which feature a minimalist patch‑style graphic of water and a rising sun along with the slogan “Lake Ontario, Now and Always,” were handed out at Toronto’s Union Station on Tuesday.“We’re proud to operate bus and rail service along the shores of Lake Ontario, from Oshawa to Niagara,” a Metrolinx spokesperson said. “[Tuesday’s] customer engagement event and limited-edition PRESTO card giveaway celebrate the pride Ontarians and Canadians have in this iconic Great Lake and the name it has carried for generations — Lake Ontario, now and always.”The transit agency distributed roughly 1,000 cards near the UP Express concourse to eager commuters, which were all claimed on Tuesday afternoon. The release comes amid heightened political attention on the lake’s name. U.S. President Donald Trump directed American agencies to refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” prompting pushback from Canadian officials and Canadian citizens. Ontario Premier Doug Ford also unveiled a $25,000 blue sign on the shoreline bearing the same inscription.
