From pricey admission tickets and premium add-ons like the Lightning Lane to gas prices, airfare, hotel accommodations, food, and merchandise, many guests are feeling the pinch.The uptick in prices at Disney World has been noted by the House of Mouse, though, with executives like CEO Josh D’Amaro and CFO Hugh Johnston explaining that, while attendance has been softer than usual, park and cruise revenue is up thanks to higher guest spending.That said, how far will the ceiling go? Will families be priced out of family vacations because Disney World is just too expensive? Only time will tell. Domestic visitation may be strong, but international visits have been turbulent in recent years, according to Disney’s own earnings reporting. Prices will rise astronomically during school breaks, while term-time pricing will be significantly cheaper, so parents will choose between possibly saving thousands on a vacation and the risk of being fined under government rules, or paying higher prices for a vacation during a school break.As outlined by the United Kingdom’s government:Your local council can give each parent a fine of £80, rising to £160 if you do not pay within 21 days.From the 2024 to 2025 school year, each parent will only get up to 2 fines for the same child in a 3-year period.If you get a second fine in 3 years it will be £160. If you do not pay the fine in 28 days you may be taken to court for keeping your child out of school.If your child is off school 3 or more times within the 3 years you will not be fined but may be taken to court.The advisories go on to note that if taken to court, parents could receive a Parenting Order, or “could get a fine of up to £2,500 [(approx. $3,300)], a community order or a jail sentence up to 3 months.”Credit: DisneyOne family recently spoke out against the fines they received for taking their children to Walt Disney World Resort this past summer. A couple based in the West Midlands in England, took their two children out of school for the Orlando trip and were reportedly fined £640 (approx. $861) for doing so. The figure is based on each parent getting fined a specific amount for each child.While the parents were aware of the possible fine, the issue arose when the school was closed due to the heatwave in the United Kingdom. “The school was also closed or open partially due to the heatwave, so we are being fined for our kids being off school when others were allowed because it was too hot,” the mother-of-two said (via The Sun).The mother explained that the price to go during school break was triple the amount.Credit: Disney“We went in term time in June because the price is triple the cost to go during the holidays […] I priced up for Easter holidays and the holiday was coming to £12,000 just for the flights and hotel – and that’s without park tickets on top,” she said.
