Writes Ginny Garner:Singer Tanya Tucker is leading 1,000s of Texas ranchers and farmers to protest the stealing of their lands and livelihoods to install 200 foot high 768 kilovolt transmission lines for data centers. Tucker has a 250 acre ranch with cattle and horses. If anyone shows up to take her land “They might get a loaded shot gun,” she said. “You gotta protect your home and they are trying to destroy it.” These lines cut houses off from the cattle, kill the wild life and destroy the water table and the ranchers are not even being notified. “Nobody wants to live under those lines,” she said. “They deny it’s bad for your health but a lot of people can’t live near them because they either have cancer or are afraid of getting it.” Encore, the company that owns the lines, and the Texas Public Utility Commission which is making the decisions on allowing these lines to run through private property are not going to tolerate any lines going through their property,” she said. “You have to jump through so many hoops just to protest. A lot of these people don’t know how to do that so i am speaking up for them. i am their voice and i am going to be loud about it because it’s not right.
