Ahead of the milestone, Gomez reflected on newlywed life with Blanco, telling People that they’re “still in the honeymoon stage.”“It just feels so wonderful to have a partner that genuinely listens and meets you right where you are, whatever that mood or day looks like,” she continued. “I need him, and I love him. He is a very joyful human: fun, spontaneous and he loves to talk.”Watching Blanco has led Gomez to “stop overthinking and be a little bit more confident,” she said. “That’s something he doesn’t pressure me to be. He just inspires me to be that.”The singer also touched on her husband’s fear of taking planes. “Poor man tries!” she said. “I wish he was flying right now, but he doesn’t fly.”For the pair’s vacation in Italy for Gomez’s 34th birthday, he sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to meet her in Europe. The gesture was both moving and worrisome to Gomez, who had been shooting Only Murders in the Building’s sixth season in the U.K.“He took a boat to see me in London [this summer when I was working],” she said. “It’s very romantic, but also equally stressful if you’re the wife. You’re just hoping he’s safe. I have a handkerchief, I’m crying, I’m waving him off and [singing] ‘I’ll be saving you...’ Yeah, it’s my life,” she said with a laugh.Gomez didn’t touch on the couple’s anniversary plans, but Blanco did in his own interview this week. He guest-hosted Today with Jenna & Sheinelle with Jenna Bush Hager, who asked him what he and Gomez were doing to fête the milestone.He said they’d have some of their wedding cake. “I didn’t even know this was a thing,” he admitted. “Her grandma, her nana, told me this. When we were at the wedding, she was like, ‘You gotta save the cake.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean save the cake?’ And she was like, ‘You gotta save the cake.’ And I was like, ‘Why?’ She was like, ‘You have to eat it.’”Since they didn’t have a big cake, “we have six slices left,” he added. “I hope you only have to eat it for the first year. I hope that’s the only tradition. I don’t want to be eating this thing on year six. I didn’t even wrap it correctly. It’s probably furry now.”Besides trying their wedding cake, they don’t have much else planned. “We wanted to just be chill,” he said. “We’ve been traveling so much. We’ve been all over.
