The head of Tooro’s Babiito royal clan, Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, has pledged to protect and support Queen Mother Best Kemigisa despite the ongoing disagreements between her and the royal clan over the succession of her late son, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.Kamurasi, the Omusuuga of the Babiito, said on Monday that although Kemigisa currently has no formal role in the kingdom’s succession process, she remains a member of the royal family and deserves the clan’s support.Currently she has no role, but she is our mother. She is both the king’s wife and the king’s mother. It is our responsibility to protect her and look after her, and I affirm that as Tooro Kingdom we shall look after her.The statement comes amid a growing dispute over who should succeed King Oyo, who passed away on August 27, 2026, aged 34.Babiito elders led by Kamurasi initially selected Prince George Desmond Kamurasi as their preferred successor. However, he later declined the throne, citing personal responsibilities. The elders subsequently selected Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, who has since presented himself as the king-designate and shared some of his plans for the kingdom. However, Queen Mother Kemigisa and other members of King Oyo’s immediate family have rejected the succession process.Gashumba challenges Ugandan prophets to heal the sick in Mulago ICUThe family maintains that King Oyo left a will naming his biological son as his successor and has called for the will to be respected. The disagreement has created tension within the royal family and among Tooro cultural leaders, with both sides maintaining different positions on how the succession should be handled.Despite the dispute, Kamurasi said the differences over succession should not affect the clan’s responsibility to care for Queen Mother Kemigisa, who remains an important member of the royal family.UPDATE- Best Kemigisa is our parent and the mother of the late Omukama Oyo. It is our responsibility to take care of her and I assure you that as Tooro Kingdom, we shall stand by her and ensure she is cared for. ~Musuuga Charles Kamurasi pic.twitter.com/FeD2L0Jy7K— UBC UGANDA (@ubctvuganda) September 14, 2026The post Musuuga Charles Kamurasi affirms clan duty to care for Queen Mother Best Kemigisa appeared first on MBU.
