The star went for a sleeker silhouette this time, choosing a sage green hue with an open back. She accessorized with Cartier.The Margo’s Got Money Troubles star has two nominations tonight for the show: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, in recognition of her work as an executive producer.In January, Elle spoke with ELLE about how she got involved with the series, which was adapted from Rufi Thorpe’s acclaimed 2024 novel. “I got my hands on [the book] and got to read it early on and was so taken with it,” she said. “I could see how it could be made into just a fantastic show.”“When you read the book, you just fall in love so much with these characters—they’re so vividly drawn,” she added. “I felt, like, ‘Okay. They spoke to ELLE in March about how “full circle” the project was, especially because Dakota did her first film with Elle’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles co-star Michelle Pfeiffer.“The first actress I ever worked with was Michelle Pfeiffer, who I worked with again 20 years later—literally, like, to the day,” Dakota said. “It was my birthday. I turned 7 on I Am Sam, and I turned 27 when we worked together on this series called The First Lady, directed by Susanne Bier, another formidable woman in my life. And now it’s even more full circle with a show that our company is producing that Elle is in, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, that Michelle is also starring in. So it’s very, very special to have had these women as role models throughout our entire careers—it is not something that I take for granted.”“And, always, this is something that I think comes up when we’re talking about projects that we want to take on with Lewellen Pictures: Audiences love seeing women act together on-screen, and we’re always looking for opportunities to create those environments on-screen,” she added.“Yeah, to perform with cool women in roles about the complexities of female friendship and the complexities of just being a woman in general,” Elle said. “We’ve gotten scripts sometimes where you’re like, ‘God, this could be so good, but there’s just something missing. This isn’t actually what female friendship is like.’”
