EFL Cup: Robinson faces Richards, Adams battles Aston Villa, and more

The EFL Cup fourth round will see four Americans keeping their hopes alive of reaching next March’s final. Tyler Adams, Antonee Robinson, Chris Richards, and Zavier Gozo are the four players remaining from the American contingent as the tournament heads into the Round of 16. Adams and Gozo were the lone two out of the four remaining players to earn minutes in the third round. Robinson started and played 90 minutes as Fulham defeated London rivals West Ham United 3-2 away from home. The U.S. Men’s National Team left back delivered a strong shift at the London Stadium, helping the Cottagers to their second victory in this season’s competition. Gozo played 17 minutes in a 3-0 home triumph over Middlesbrough while Richards did not dress in the match. Both players could feature in the fourth round tie against Robinson when Crystal Palace visits Fulham in a London Derby.Adams did not feature in Bournemouth’s 4-0 home win over Lincoln City. The USMNT veteran remains a key figure in the Cherries’ squad and could get a starting nod against Aston Villa in the fourth round. Brenden Aaronson, Aidan Morris, Sebastian Berhalter, Max Arfsten, and Rokas Pukstas were the five American players to suffer elimination in the third round. Aaronson scored once in Leeds United’s 6-3 road loss to Chelsea while Morris started and Pukstas featured in the aforementioned Middlesbrough defeat at Selhurst Park.
