A Florida woman who called emergency services to complain about a loud garbage truck ended up in handcuffs herself after law enforcement officers determined that she had trespassed into the vehicle and assaulted the worker. The incident, which took place in Palm Beach County, Florida, was captured on police body-camera footage and later went viral online after being posted on YouTube. What started as a complaint about noise quickly turned into an arrest for the woman who made the call. The dispute began when an unnamed resident was at her home preparing for an upcoming work conference call. According to local reports and viral body-camera footage surfaced by Atlanta Black Star, she became increasingly frustrated by the persistent noise coming from a sanitation truck operating directly outside her residence. She claimed the worker punched her in the face The woman claimed she repeatedly asked the sanitation worker to shut off his engine while the truck was stopped. When the worker ignored her requests and continued doing his job, she left her house to confront him directly. The situation escalated when she approached the vehicle. While the woman later maintained to police that she merely “stepped up” onto the truck to turn it off using an external notch, the physical layout of the heavy machinery suggested otherwise. The truck’s cabin was elevated, making it difficult to reach the ignition controls without physically entering the vehicle. According to the sanitation worker, the woman entered his truck and shut the engine off while he was actively trying to load trash. When he grabbed her to remove her from the commercial vehicle, she allegedly resisted and struck him. Believing she was the wronged party, the woman called emergency services to report that she had been assaulted by the sanitation worker. She told responding officers from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office that the worker had punched her directly in the face after she pushed him. However, the responding deputy quickly noticed several gaps in her account. There was no visible trauma despite her claim that she had been punched in the mouth. She showed no visible injuries or swelling and confirmed that she was not seriously hurt. The sanitation worker admitted that he grabbed her to pull her out of his workspace but denied striking her. He stated that she accidentally hit herself in the mouth during the struggle as he was removing her from inside the cabin. The investigation then took an unexpected turn for the homeowner when the deputy asked the sanitation worker if he wanted to press criminal charges for trespassing and battery. The worker agreed to proceed. The woman expressed disbelief as she was placed in handcuffs “He punched me in the face, and I’m the one that’s going to jail? This is insane to me right now,” she said in the video footage. Officers also told her that she was “lucky” she wasn’t being booked for attempting to steal the vehicle. The caller was arrested and booked on two charges: a misdemeanor count of trespassing in a conveyance and a first-degree misdemeanor count of battery.
