New guidelines aim to prevent stray animals on national highways and expressways. This initiative follows a Supreme Court directive to the National Highways Authority of India. National highway agencies will remove animals and transport them to designated shelters. State administrations will establish and maintain these animal shelters and pounds. Round-the-clock surveillance will be conducted on designated highway stretches.
