Hip 899, a colt by boom sire Not This Time and the latest produce out of the late Brereton C. Jones's 2012 GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Believe You Can (Proud Citizen) was knocked down to bloodstock agent Marette Farrell for $2 million, joining the sire's hip 803 for session-leading honors as day four rolled on at the Keeneland September Sale. The bay, consigned by Airdrie Stud Raised and Offered, was bred by the estate of the former Kentucky governor, who passed away at the age of 84 one day shy of three years to the date of this colt's sale.Believe You Can was one of 11 winners from 13 to the races from El Fasto (El Prado {Ire}), Believe You Can was trained by Larry Jones to take the GIII Tempted Stakes in 2011 and, with Rosie Napravnik in the irons, won the 2012 Silverbulletday Stakes and GII Fair Grounds Oaks before belying odds of 13-1 on the first Friday in May. Believe You Can has been represented as a broodmare by GII Del Mar Derby hero Conclude (Collected) as well as Ellis Park Derby winner and GIII Oklahoma Derby runner-up Believe In Royalty (Tapit).“Well, I was obviously hoping for less,” said Farrell. “I though the fact that he was immature would help us a little bit, but honestly, he was so athletic and so light on his feet, especially in the back walking ring. And like I said, to Peter Fluor and K.C. [Weiner], he had a stallion's pedigree. He's by the right sire that is on a trajectory to the stars right now. And then we know Conclude because he's by collected.“And I said to Peter, he's, in my opinion, my humble opinion, I think he's a much better horse than Conclude. I hope I'm right. And it's a beautiful pedigree. It's one of Brere's key families. And as we all know, they're one of the top breeders in America.
