Every week, the TDN posts a roundup of the relevant Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA) related rulings from around the country.The following rulings were reported on HISA's “rulings” portal and through the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit's (HIWU) “pending” and “resolved” cases portals.Among this week's rulings, owner Mariah G. Gonzalez was handed an 18-month suspension for violating the terms of a current medication violation suspension. The latest suspension begins August 7, 2027.On February 6 this year, Gonzalez was handed an 18-month suspension after Albuterol was detected in an out-of-competition hair sample taken from her horse Jet Set Warrior at Alburquerque Downs on July 23, 2025. That suspension began on February 7.According to HIWU's final decision, Gonzalez participated as an owner on February 9 in two races, running I'magambler and Warriors Mark at Sunland Park, New Mexico.HISA statute stipulates that when a licensee is under a period of suspension, they “may not participate in any capacity in any activity involving Covered Horses, or in any other activity (other than authorized anti doping education or rehabilitation programs) taking place at a Racetrack or Training Facility; nor shall he or she permit anyone to participate in any capacity on his or her behalf in any such activities, except to the extent that the Covered Person is an Owner and the activity is necessary to ensure the safekeeping and wellbeing of the horse during the period of such Owner's Provisional Suspension or Ineligibility.”According to HIWU, Gonzalez failed to respond over several months to the various procedural action points in the processing of the case.
