FocusFest is returning this fall on October 10 in Los Angeles after its successful debut in 2025, which featured an advance screening of the global phenomenon Obsession. The festival will be hosted by television personality Justin Sylvester and will feature special guest appearances from Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed‑Miles, the stars of Sense and Sensibility. Hosted by indie film studio Focus Features, this year’s one-day festival follows on the heels of last year’s sold out event and has now expanded with more screenings and themed food and beverages. Curry Barker’s film first screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of 2025 and was the first runner-up in the “Midnight Madness” category. Focus Films acquired the movie just days after and screened it at the premiere FocusFest in October. Its appearance was a pivotal step in its eventual theatrical release that now sits at over $500 million in ticket sales. Obsession is a success story for indie film makers and shows just how beneficial film festivals are for creative young directors. This year’s festival is split into three categories: “For The Fearful and The Fearless,” which includes horror favorites Obsession and Nosferatu; “For The Yearners,” which features a stacked lineup of Jane Austen adaptations like Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Pride and Prejudice; and “For The Moments That Shape Us,” which highlights previous award-winning Focus titles like TÁR, The Holdovers, and the incoming Elsinore. The biggest films FocusFest is providing a first look at are undoubtedly the highly-anticipated Sense and Sensibility and Elsinore from directors Georgia Oakley and Simon Stone, respectively. Both movies don’t hit U.S. theaters until later this year, giving the festival goers an early seat to two of the biggest releases of 2026. Special guests Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed‑Miles both star in Sense and Sensibility as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, with the film hitting theaters October 16. The first trailer released back in June of this year and showed promising potential that this could be another acclaimed Austen adaptation for the shelves. Elsinore, starring Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman, is FocusFest’s second exciting screening that won’t be hitting U.S. theaters until November 20. The film is based on the late Ian Charleson, (played by Scott) a Scottish actor best known for his role as Eric Liddell in the Oscar-winning 1981 film Chariots of Fire and Rev. Charles Andrews in 1982’s Gandhi, but Elsinore focuses on his journey in playing Hamlet at the National Theater in London. Some critics have claimed this is Scott’s “best performance yet.” You can grab tickets before October 10 and head to The Universal Lot in Los Angeles to get a first look at Sense and Sensibility, and Elsinore and enjoy the themed foods and additional screenings.
