Samsung is a key player in the AI semiconductor supply chain. It's supply critical technologies to market leaders like NVIDIA while also supporting new companies that are working to challenge the incumbents' leads. The company has now invested in the latest funding round of Dutch startup Euclyd, which is building AI inference chips with a view to rival NVIDIA.It joins others in developing solutions beyond NVIDIAEuclyd has raised $230 million in its latest funding round which was co-led by Samsung, Somerset Capital Partners, the Scaleup Europe Fund and Innovation Industries. The exact amount that Samsung has invested hasn't been disclosed. This is a relatively new startup that was founded just two years ago. It's designing an AI chip for inference that's not as GPU-forward as NVIDIA's solutions, aside from different architectures for the processor and memory.NVIDIA currently enjoys a significant lead in the AI chip segment but some hyperscales are now looking for different, and potentially cheaper, solutions. Others like OpenAI, Amazon AWS, Google, and Meta, are also working on their own processors for AI inference.Samsung can provide more value to companies in this segment beyond being just a memory supplier. Euclyd CEO Bernardo Kastrup has said that Samsung can help them in more ways than just providing funding, as they have a lot of engineering expertise, have a deep understanding of the supply chain, and a huge network.
