Cheluvarayaswamy on Tuesday (September 15) said Srirangapatna Dasara would be organised in a grand and distinctive manner this year, keeping in mind the historical significance and rich cultural heritage of the historical town.Addressing a Dasara preparatory meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mandya, he said Srirangapatna had its own unique historical and cultural importance and the celebrations should reflect its legacy. Instead of following the routine format, efforts were being made to introduce new features to the festival, he said.Yuva Sambhrama will be held on October 12 and 13 at the Srirangapatna taluk stadium, providing college students from across Mandya district an opportunity to showcase their artistic talents. The programme will be modelled on the Yuva Sambhrama held during Mysuru Dasara.The Dasara will be inaugurated on October 15 and conclude on October 18. A series of cultural programmes showcasing local art, culture and traditions will be held during these days.Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said discussions were under way on inviting dignitaries for the inauguration and finalising other aspects of the celebrations. A decision would be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister and the State government, besides considering suggestions from elected representatives and officials.He directed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for cleanliness, drinking water, electricity, traffic management and public safety during the festival.Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, MLA, said the Dasara and Yuva Sambhrama should be organised through effective coordination among various departments and organisations. Priority should be given to local talent and the celebrations should showcase the cultural heritage of Srirangapatna, he said.Deputy Commissioner Kumar said steps had been initiated to bring elephants for the Dasara celebrations. The departments concerned had been asked to coordinate and complete their assigned responsibilities within the stipulated time.A food mela featuring 125 stalls is also proposed as part of the celebrations. It will offer a variety of food items while providing business opportunities to local vendors, he said.Twelve committees have been constituted to oversee various aspects of the Dasara celebrations, and officials have been directed to complete preparations within the prescribed deadline.Dinesh Gooli Gowda,State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority vice-chairperson and MLC, Madhu G. Made Gowda, MLC, and Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R.
