And in some auxiliary parts, Samsung reduced the weight to as little as 0.001 grams. Every little bit helped. Every auxiliary part, no matter how small, was examined. Samsung reviewed approximately 270 Galaxy Z Fold 8 components and more than 180 types of auxiliary parts. The review covered everything from the display and hinge to circuit boards, tapes, and fasteners.Approximately 15 auxiliary parts were eliminated for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and some parts were consolidated into single structures.In addition, Samsung redesigned the PCB (printed circuit board) for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to get rid of unnecessary circuits and improve component layout. The MFC (Magnetic Flux Channel) antenna was reimagined to reduce unnecessary overlap and interference with surrounding components.After all this work, Samsung achieved a weight of only 201 grams and a thickness of just 4.5mm for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. And that was despite the new, larger silicon-carbon battery adding approximately 6 grams to the phone.The Galaxy Z Fold 8's lightness is one of its greatest strengths, and by the sound of it, Samsung knew this all the way back when it began sketching the Fold 8.
