Spazju Kreattiv has unveiled its programme for 2026/27, and there’s a packed year of exhibitions, theatre, cinema and creative projects ahead.Malta’s National Centre for Creativity officially launched its new season on Wednesday, 16th September, bringing together more than 50 events and initiatives involving over 70 artists and creatives and upwards of 60 partners and collaborators.Among the biggest numbers for the coming year are 12 major exhibitions, more than 15 theatre productions and over 300 film screenings, alongside performances, residencies and multidisciplinary projects.The programme follows Spazju Kreattiv’s 25th anniversary and continues the organisation’s focus on providing space for artistic experimentation, collaboration and the development of new work.Its international Artist-in-Residence programme will also return, with four projects bringing together artists from five nationalities working across five different creative disciplines.Meanwhile, anyone curious about what lies behind the familiar walls of St James Cavalier will have several opportunities to explore them.Nine theatrical tours are planned throughout the season, taking audiences into areas of the historic building that are not normally open to the public while exploring the stories of St James Cavalier and its place in Malta’s history.Local artists and creatives will also have opportunities to get directly involved.A number of Open Calls are expected to be launched throughout the year, while 16 IKKREA sessions will give creative practitioners opportunities to develop their work, exchange ideas and connect with different areas of Malta’s cultural sector.Speaking at the programme launch, Arts, Culture and National Heritage Minister Malcolm Paul Agius Galea described culture as something capable of shaping “how a nation understands itself”, while pointing towards Spazju Kreattiv’s role as a meeting point for artists, audiences, educators and cultural organisations.Fondazzjoni Kreattività Executive Chairman Rupert Cefai said the new season builds on the organisation’s first 25 years while creating space for both emerging artists and established names.“The 2026/27 programme reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing together a rich and diverse range of artistic practices that celebrate creativity in all its forms,” he said.Beyond the headline exhibitions and performances, this year’s programme will encompass art-house cinema, festivals, educational collaborations, think tanks, international projects and initiatives aimed at developing Malta’s artistic community.The full 2026/27 programme can be found on Spazju Kreattiv’s website.•
