Watership Down Stud manager Simon Marsh has voiced his optimism ahead of the Goffs Orby Sale later this month, where the leading operation will be represented by a trio of well-bred yearlings, headed by a Frankel colt out of Group 1 performer Lah Ti Dar (Dubawi). All three horses have been reared and prepared at Kiltinan Castle Stud, Watership Down's Irish base, while Marsh also outlined hopes for the stud's broader draft of yearlings that are due to sell at Tattersalls in October.“We have always been keen to support Goffs when the opportunity arises,” Marsh explained. “We've had horses at Kiltinan in Ireland for 30 years now and, historically, we have sold a lot of mares at Goffs over the years. More recently, we've sold two or three yearlings at Goffs and did quite well – we sold a Sea The Stars colt very well [€550,000] – last year through Flash Conroy at Glenvale Stud on behalf of John Ferguson.”While Watership Down has bolstered its Orby offering, the majority of the Berkshire-based farm's yearlings will be sold at Tattersalls later this month. With 15 yearlings slated for Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale at Park Paddocks and 21 set to go under the hammer at Book 2, all hands will be on the pump. Therefore, the three-pronged Orby draft – which also features a Too Darn Hot colt and a Mehmas filly – will be sold once again by Conroy at Glenvale Stud. Marsh explained, “These three horses that we're sending to Goffs, they have all been reared at Kiltinan and are all being prepared at Kiltinan. We're obviously very hopeful that they'll go down well at the Orby and we're delighted to support the sale. We have a number of nice Too Darn Hot yearlings to sell so I thought it was important to bring a really nice individual by the stallion to Goffs, which I hope we are doing. We also have a very good Mehmas filly, which we think will suit the sale, and then we've got a Frankel colt out of Lah Ti Dar and he's very, very nice – just the type of individual you want to be bringing to a sale like the Orby.”He added, “We're obviously selling the vast majority of our horses at Tattersalls across Book 1 and Book 2, and we're extremely excited by our draft at those sales, too. With so many horses selling at Tattersalls, having our own team at Goffs wouldn't work logistically as it would split things up a little. We've preferred to put the horses with somebody else and obviously Flash does an excellent job. Flash has been a good friend of mine for many, many years and he's very local to Kiltinan. He's been able to come and see them regularly. He's got a very good reputation and he's part of the team.”Goffs chief Henry Beeby has many mantras. Perhaps none are repeated more than Goffs saying it is 'nothing without the horses.' Watership Down has certainly supported the Orby Sale with three potentially high-end yearlings and Marsh says he had no reservations about backing Ireland's premier yearling sale with such a draft. “Goffs does a great job,” Marsh said. “They get everybody to the Orby and they're flying people in from America. They do a fantastic job and I've known Henry for many years now. We're delighted to be able to support the sale. We've had some real successes with both yearlings and mares at Goffs, and they really push the boat out for both their vendors and prospective purchasers at their sales.”He added, “We've got some really smart horses to sell over the coming weeks so it's quite exciting. I think we have some exceptional fillies going to Book 1 at Tattersalls – we've got a very good Blue Point filly out of Continental Draft (Smart Strike), who is from the family of Intercontinental and Banks Hill. I think people will love her. We've also got a beautiful Sea The Stars filly out of a sister to the Oaks winner, Ezeliya, and a Justify filly out of Darlectable You (Dubawi), who is a sister to Too Darn Hot. There are some classy colts in there as well – there's a Siyouni out of Millisle (Starspangledbanner). Overall, it's a very strong bunch and we're very much looking forward to it.”The post Frankel Colt Out Of Lah Ti Dar Heads Watership Down’s Three-Strong Orby Draft appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
