Andrea Calleja, affectionately known as “Batman”, is preparing to take a major step forward four years after an obstacle race accident left him paralysed in all four limbs.Andrea suffered a serious neck injury while taking part in The Grid in 2022, after reportedly staying behind at the final obstacle to make sure everyone else got through.Since then, he has faced years of rehabilitation and recovery at Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital. Now, Andrea is preparing to leave the hospital and move into a home of his own.However, the property has needed to be completely adapted to accommodate his needs, while the costs of his ongoing rehabilitation, care and support continue to place a significant financial burden on his family.A fundraiser has now been launched with a €60,000 target, with donations going towards adapting Andrea’s new home and providing the resources he needs as he continues his rehabilitation. The campaign is set to run until 28th October 2026.Every contribution can make a difference, while those unable to donate are being encouraged to share Andrea’s story and help the appeal reach as many people as possible.•
