Full VAR AUDIO released of Haaland's controversial winner

Wait 5 sec.

The VAR is clearly focusing on getting a decision as fast as possible, and only focusing on Haarland. There was no attempt to understand the full context including Fernandez's role in the Penalty box. Webb said it was tunnel vision, which was part of the issue. But it was also that the VAR was rushing to judgment in awarding the goal, which would have put more pressure on the Assistant VAR to go along with the decision. For example, even before the check is complete the VAR says to Oliver that Haaland is onside, and says to his assistant "this should be a goal", so he's effectively pre-empted the decision by focusing exclusively on Haaland while they complete the final technical steps in the process. The focus on the process means they miss the elephant in the room which is Fernandez. If this is typical I'm not sure why they even have the Assistant VAR. Surely, the Assistant VAR should be there as a second pair of eyes rather than just confirming the decision of the VAR? Webb doesn’t really get into this but they need to consider the roles of VAR and the assistant in their review, surely? submitted by /u/Scotchdude1979 [link] [comments]
