The full-time whistle has blown in the Carabao Cup clash between Tottenham and Liverpool, and it is time for our player ratings from the 3-1 defeat.Spurs may have created the better chances, but scorchers from Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai send the Lilywhites crashing out of the cup. The likes of Bergvall and Kudus will look back on the game as a missed opportunity after they missed sitters in the first half, with the score ending 3-1.Tottenham full-time player ratings vs LiverpoolMartin Dubravka – He did make a good save early in the game in the first half after Koumas was through on goal. He made another in the second half after Tosin’s loose pass invited pressure. However, for the three goals, there was little he could have done. 5.Archie Gray – He was not adventurous in the first half compared to Udogie, who took every opportunity to overlap. Defensively, the full-back had the big task of marking Cody Gakpo and was guilty of allowing him to come inside onto his favourite foot. That was what led to Liverpool’s second. 4.Tosin Adarabioyo – In the first half, he managed to get in a crucial tackle on Koumas, who could well have been through on goal had Tosin not stepped in. Overall, the Reds barely created much, leaving the Spurs backline with little to do. But Tosin was tidy with the ball when in possession, often keeping things simple. He did have a moment of madness with a loose pass during Spurs’ build-up, but Liverpool did not punish his error. 4.Marcos Senesi – A mixed game from the centre-back, who managed a couple of blocks, tackles and interceptions in the first half. He also came close to assisting Udogie with a long ball from deep, but the full-back could not get the ball under control. In the second half, Liverpool barely threatened and there was little he could do to prevent Gakpo’s goal. 5.Destiny Udogie – He was Tottenham’s best player in the first half and should easily have walked away with two assists had Bergvall and Kudus converted from his crosses into the box. Defensively, he was also impressive, often getting the better of Rio. 8.Photo by Michael Regan/Getty ImagesLucas Bergvall – The midfielder offered some threat going forward in the first half for Tottenham and had the best chance of the game after meeting Udogie’s cutback, but his effort was rather central. In the second half, he did not have that many chances, but held his own in midfield, getting in a few tackles and interceptions. As Spurs went in search of an equaliser in the second half, the midfielder ventured forward a lot more and got his head on a few balls into the box. 6.Rodrigo Bentancur – Was everywhere in the first half, putting in the hard yards both in and out of possession in the middle of the park. He was eventually taken off in the second half before the hour mark after a clumsy tackle from Gakpo. Hopefully, it is nothing serious. 6.Conor Gallagher – The attacking midfielder managed Spurs’ first goal tonight after heading in from a Fernandes corner. He was the one who won the corner kick after his shot from inside the box came off Kerkez. He did not have the best of first halves in terms of creativity in the final third, although he did link up well with Kudus at times before the interval. 6.5.Mathys Tel – His final pass in the first half was lacking as he often overhit the ball when looking to play his teammates in at times. In the second half, he barely had any influence on proceedings and offered little in the final third. 3.Omar Marmoush – The forward did not have that many touches in the first half, but that improved in the second half, with Marmoush dropping deep and linking up play. He did manage a few driving runs and created a chance for Kudus, who drew a fine save from Mamardashvili. He came close to the equaliser late on in the game, but his effort was well saved. 5.Mohammed Kudus – He missed a sitter in the first half that should have drawn Tottenham level. In the second half, he had another good chance, but his effort from inside the box was well saved by Mamardashvili. 4.SubstitutesMateus Fernandes – Came on for Bentancur and grabbed the assist for Gallagher’s goal from the corner kick. 6.Andy Robertson – Replaced Destiny Udogie and helped Tottenham hold width on the left, with the full-back often looking to overlap and get forward and into the box. 5.Savio – Was brought on for Kudus and went to the left wing had a good chance after running at Kerkez, but his effort was wide. 6.James Maddison – Came on for Gallagher in the final minutes of the second half, managed a shot from outside the box and forced a save from Mamardashvili. 6.Dominic Solanke – Replaced Tel for the final five minutes and went straight to the centre-forward position.
