Edited Press ReleaseThe University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program (RTIP) has named the late Charles E. “Chuck” Simon as the recipient of the 2026 John K. Goodman Alumni Award, recognizing his contributions to Thoroughbred racing and, most importantly, the lasting impact he had on the people he mentored.The strongest testament to Simon's influence comes from the success of those he mentored. In 2026, two of his former mentees, Cherie DeVaux and Chad Summers, captured the three legs of racing's Triple Crown. Their accomplishments are part of the broader legacy Simon leaves behind through the many people he encouraged, taught and supported.“Chuck Simon understood that one of the most important things you can do in racing is help the people coming behind you,” said Robert Hartman, Chair of the Race Track Industry Program. “His influence can be seen in the accomplishments of so many people he mentored. To see Cherie and Chad's level of success this year is a remarkable testament to the impact Chuck had on the people around him.”The John K. Goodman Alumni Award is presented annually to an RTIP alumnus who has distinguished himself or herself through professional achievement, service to the racing industry, and a commitment to advancing the people and organizations that make the sport successful.The award is named in honor of John K.
