Grade I winner Antiquarian (Preservationist) has been sold to the JS Company and Directors to stand at Arrow Stud in Japan for the upcoming breeding season, it was announced via press release Friday morning.A three-time graded winner, including the GI Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes last year at Saratoga, Antiquarian had been working up to a title defense of the Gold Cup when he was retired after a minor suspensory injury was discovered underneath his left ankle. He returned to Middleburg, Virginia while owner Centennial Farms worked on a stallion deal.Antiquarian is from the first crop of the late Preservationist, who was also campaigned by Centennial to Grade I glory and retired a millionaire. The son hails from the venerable breeding program of Brereton Jones, whose Airdrie Stud was also home to the sire before his export to Korea. Antiquarian, in addition to the JCGC, won the GIII Peter Pan and GIII Westchester Stakes, and was placed in the GI Whitney, GII Suburban, and the GIII Blame Stakes.Out of a winning half-sister to GSW Speaktomeofsummer (Summer Front), Antiquarian is himself a half-brother to GSW Fondly (Upstart). Another of his dam's half-sisters is the mother of GSP More Fun Again (Arch), who in turn is the dam of SP Tahini (American Pharoah). This is the immediate female family of multiple European and Irish Highweight Lucayan Prince (Fast Play), a multiple Group 1-placed runner, and MGSW Comic Strip (Red Ransom). The Arrow Stud roster also include the likes of California Chrome, Shanghai Bobby, Firenze Fire, and Mozu Ascot.“With his proven racing ability from winning the U.S. Grade I, his excellent stature, and the pedigree backed by its success in Japan, Antiquarian is expected to bring new possibilities to the Japanese breeding world,” said JS Company via a release to their website. “We sincerely ask for your continued support of Antiquarian.”The post Antiquarian to Stand in Japan at Arrow Stud appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
