BADIGERIt was an interesting day out for some school students in Belagavi on Friday, who competed in a science quiz named after legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and made working models to explain scientific principles.Over 350 students participated in The Hindu Ramanujan Spark Quest 2026 and The Hindu Avishkar Science Fest 2026. Students from various schools across the city participated in the two events. Some even travelled from places as far as Gokak and Bailhongal. The event was organised in association with Excellent Science and Commerce PU College, Moodabidri.While some students created models to explain existing principles of science and mathematics, some others tried to explore new ideas. A few tried to find solutions to everyday problems, while others tried to imagine life in the future.A pair of students prepared a working model of an eco-friendly stove, which works by burning farm waste briquettes; another team made a rooftop wire that pulls clothes to safety at the first drops of rain.Some other interesting projects include a tiny farm model that works on the principles of permaculture and circular agronomy, and a project that showcased the application of solar energy in the house and in streets.They were judged on various factors such as understanding of concepts, creativity, and novelty of designs. A team of professors from S.G. Balekundri Institute of Technology served as jury members.Rahul Shindhe, Zilla Panchayat CEO gave away the awards.The winners of the Ramajujam Spark quest for class 10 include: Sumanth S. Angadi of Jain Heritage School, Aariz S. Madiwale of KLE School, and Samarjit S. Patil of Jain Heritage School.The consolation prizes went to Prapit Patten of Jain Heritage School, Keshav Mudakana Goudar and Tanvi P. Hanabaratti of Kalpavruksha Model School, Bailhongal.Winners in the class 9 category include Advay Mannolkar of Jain Heritage School, Amogh Venkatesh Natekar of PM Shri KV No. 2, and Rajat Khandekar of Jain Heritage School.The consolation prizes went to Pruthveesh N. Dombar of Bhartesh Central School, Halaga, Aapthi Sameer Shiraguppi of PM Shri KV No. 2, and Shrinik Kumar of Podar International School.Among class 8 students, Abhishek Varadaraj of Jain Heritage School, Pranav Arun Kumar Amasi of KLE School, and Neha Nanasaheb Jadhav of St. Mary’s High School won the first three prizes.The consolation prizes were given to Dhyan U. Jati of Jain Heritage School, Amogh N. Baligatti of KLE School, and Arnav N. Mahajan of St. Paul’s High School.In the Avishkar Inter-School Science fest 2026 junior category, Rachana C. Murgod and Sannidhi Shivaram Bhandari of Mayur English Medium School, Gokak, Manvi M. Patil and Kushi A. Khot of Bhartesh Central School, Halaga, and Tanvi V. Kolli and Arna S. Aralikatti of Mayur English Medium School, Gokak, won the first three prizes.The consolation prizes went to Vivan Chandak and Aryan Pattenshetti of Birla International School, Ramling B. Neginhal and Samarth C. Basapuri, Sankalp Shinde and Arnav Sambrekar, Amoghavarsh Bogar and Ritika Kundargi of KLE’s School, and Manasvi D. Shetty and Soumya K. Manded of Bhartesh Central School, Halaga.In the senior category, Anushka K. Tubaki and Sadvi P. Chougule of Bhartesh Central School, Halaga, Adinath Patil and Rohit R. Shetty of Jyoti Central School, and Prachi S. Mokhasi and Arnav Dharwadkar of Jain Heritage School won the first three prizes.The consolation prizes were given to Anuj M. Pal Kedar and S.
