By Mulengera ReportersLed by Anna Ruyondo Lumumba and Patricia Magara, hundreds of children and grandchildren of fallen NRA bush war veterans on Tuesday gathered at the NRM National Chairman Gen YK Museveni’s private offices (ONC) at Kyambogo to celebrate the President’s 82nd birthday.Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the Special Presidential Advisor (SPA) who heads ONC, ensured that the day was used to reflect on the sacrifices such NRA civilian and combatant veterans made during the five year bush and also the destitution some of their children and grandchildren are experiencing today, more than 40 years since their leader YM Museveni cruised to the Presidency.Namyalo feels that the President has done his part dedicating hundreds of billions of shillings to emancipate the fallen veterans’ children except that much of the money ends up being stolen by the mighty at the different government MDAs. Such bureaucrats are accused of stigmatizing the fallen veterans’ children who they see as smelly beggars who specialize at moving begging from one office to another. Some consider them to be bad-mannered children who are full self-entitlement.So Namyalo, who has had to be hated by some such officials at the GoU MDAs for relentlessly giving audience to such aggrieved Ugandans, felt there was no better way to celebrate the big man’s birthday than dedicating the day to giving them platform to air out their grievances. Gratefully, Museveni who was supposed to personally come, delegated the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to represent her. Nabbanja shed tears as the veterans’ children and grandchildren narrated their destitution during the Kyambogo birthday bash.Nabbanja indeed read the big man’s speech besides delivering the H.E’s personal contribution of Shs30m aimed at reimbursing the inadequately-funded Namyalo for the money she had used and spent organizing the birthday bash to which top clergy and religious leaders were invited and indeed came to, in a special way, pray for the long life of the President.Anna Ruyondo and Patricia Magara called on Nabbanja to thank the President on their behalf for identifying, deploying and empowering Namyalo to head such a powerful office because, as they put it, she is one leader who naturally loves people and understands that ONC has to be used as a platform to give a voice to the voiceless. They said that bosses at other government offices never give them audience unlike Namyalo whose open door policy enables Ugandans of all walks of life to access and share with her their afflictions. The duo, whose views were amplified by Dr. Daniel Kangaha and Gen JB Mulindwa of OWC, narrated to Nabbanja that many of the fallen veterans’ children are polishable and easily deployable to serve in government because they are patriotic, hardworking and have very good education qualifications. That many of them are already doing well in private businesses and only need to meet the President and explain to him a few policy areas in which he can intervene to boost their business enterprises.Unlike many NRM-affiliated public events today, the ONC Tuesday event was totally devoid of MK praise-singing. Several Ministers like Sanjay Tana, Lydia Wanyoto and Harriet Ntabaazi were present to flank the PM, but none of them engaged in any public flattery of Gen MK whose 2031 Presidential ambitions have become something every government/public official is expected to endorse and amplify whenever given a microphone.At the Kyambogo event, all the praises went to Gen Museveni and the heroes he fought with. All the clerics stuck to that unwritten rule as none of them ever prayed for or mentioned Gen MK’s name. They dwelled on thanking the almighty for Gen Museveni’s long life and implored Him to enable him win all future electoral contests he will participate in come 2031 and beyond. Nabbanja agreed with them and gave a long elaboration as to why Museveni is still capable, popular and energetic enough to continue leading Uganda for an indefinite period for as long as God still gives him life.The event convener Namyalo engaged in endless flattery of her boss Gen YK Museveni and repeatedly made it clear Kaguta’s son won’t be going anywhere soon in the foreseeable future. She kept referencing Eddie Kenzo’s song of ‘Ensonga Yo Weri’ to depict her determination (as the ONC Manager) to ensure Museveni remains President beyond 2031.She explained that the involvement of all the Ministers and MPs present plus Premier Nabbanja, who the President personally rang and directed to come, is indicative of the fact that Gen Museveni supports ONC structures’ readiness to continue parroting their ‘Omalako Jjaaja Tova Ku Main.’Namyalo implied she doesn’t see reason why anyone would consider anyone else from within the Movement becoming President for as long as Gen Museveni is still alive. Nabbanja agreed and made it clear that the big man from Rwakitura is still ‘physically, emotionally and mentally’ fit to continue leading Uganda for as long as he has life.Some of the journalists present feared that Namyalo and Nabbanja might find themselves publicly rebuked and threatened with basement experience as was recently done to Presidency Minister Milly Babalanda who had to publicly amend her previously released tweet proclaiming Museveni’s fitness to be on the ballot paper come 2031. Namyalo, who supporters fear could be the next Mathew Bagonza, isn’t taking this potential basement experience risk for the first time.In around 2022, she took the gamble when she publicly came out to antagonize Gen MK’s presidential ambitions. She convened a massive event at the same ONC Kyambogo premises and unveiled the Tova Ku Main campaign which was used to rally support and amplify Museveni’s 2026 re-election messaging across the country.It’s increasingly clearly that she is out to once again try testing the fence and see what consequences will be coming her way. Perhaps having realized the potential danger she is in, Namyalo used the Tuesday birthday event to strike a more conciliatory ton towards the Plot 10 Kyadondo NRM leaders like Richard Todwong and others who some years ago she was very contemptuous of.Nabbanja (who like VP Jessica Alupo is yet to publicly endorse Gen MK for 2031) said many things at the Tuesday event, clearly calculated at demonstrating to the crowd of ONC supporters that their boss SPA Namyalo still has the President’s backing in whatever direction she chooses to take.Nabbanja asserted that the Kyambogo-based SPA was safe and no one would be endangering her anytime soon. Even Sanjay Tana, who is a newly enrolled CEC member of PLU, didn’t bother popularizing the ongoing MK endorsement forms’ signing. Nabbanja said she realized Museveni was still here for some good time recently when she represented him in London for the UK-Africa Business Summit.She claimed to have been able to dominate the Summit and attract a lot of attention from other heads of government delegations and potential investors when it was proclaimed to them that she is the one who was representing the Ugandan big man. Nabbanja implied that 2031 will clearly not be the appropriate time to let go of such a leader for as long as God still gives him life.She called on people present to endlessly pray to God to keep Museveni alive so that Uganda continues benefiting from his leadership. She said that, as someone who is previledged to often come very close to him in meetings, she is grateful to God who has kept Gen Museveni in such perfect physical form for an old man of his age.She implied that only Museveni can consolidate the gains Ugandans have collectively registered in the last 40 years under the NRM. In his speech, as was read by Nabbanja, Museveni highlighted the transformation Uganda has registered and explained why the country is simply unstoppable under his leadership.
