The half-time player ratings for Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa are in as the Lilywhites head into the break losing 0-1.Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Aston VillaAntonin Kinsky – He was mostly untested, but the few times he was called into action, he proved equal to the task, especially from Buendia’s effort inside the box, with the Argentine looking to beat the Czech international at his near post. 7.Pedro Porro – The full-back was forced off early in the first half, after 15 minutes with what looked like a muscle problem. However, before he came off, he was very influential for Spurs, offering creativity from deep with long balls into the forwards while also linking well with Savio. No player touched the ball more than the full-back during the time he was on the pitch. 7.Jan Paul van Hecke – While van de Ven did the tackling, van Hecke offered cover aerially, often getting his head on crosses into the box. However, Jackson did get the better of the defender with a clever finish, but the forward dragged his effort wide. He later showed his passing range with a lovely ball from deep to set Marmoush free, but the forward could not get the ball under control. 6.Micky van de Ven – He looked assured in defence for most of the game. With Tottenham committing bodies forward – particularly down the right – van de Ven was often forced to cover at right‑back, tracking Jackson in the channels and barely giving the forward a sniff. Given how influential he was, it’s no surprise Villa’s goal came while he was off the pitch receiving treatment after taking a whack to the face. 6.5.Andy Robertson – Most of the action has come down the right flank, leaving Robertson with little to do both offensively and defensively. He did receive some criticism for his part in Villa’s opener after choosing to keep the ball in play rather than letting it run out for a corner – a decision that ultimately proved costly. 5.Rodrigo Bentancur – A quieter display, with the midfielder mostly tasked with recycling possession in the middle of the park. 5.Photo by Marc Atkins/Aston Villa FC via Getty ImagesSandro Tonali – The Italian has been positive with the ball, often carrying from deep into the Villa half, and came close to assisting a goal after driving into the box and pulling it back for Solanke, who could not get the ball under control. He came close himself after shooting from outside the box, with his effort narrowly going wide. 8.Mateus Fernandes – He has looked really agile in that number ten role in midfield, often linking up well with Savio and Pedro Porro. He has been full of running, often looking to underlap and put first-time crosses into the box. 6.5.Omar Marmoush – The forward has not really had much of a sniff, although he has seen much of the ball down on the left for Tottenham. He was played through by van Hecke after a brilliant run from deep, but he failed to get the ball under control. Had he managed to, he would have been in. 5.5.Dominic Solanke – He has barely had any clear chances in the first half, but had he reacted quickly to Tonali’s cut-back, he would have had a chance to take a shot. He did have a half chance after a corner, with his header coming off the arm of the Villa defender, leading to half-hearted penalty appeals. 5.Savio – The winger was lively in the first half and often took on Ruggeri down on the right of Spurs’ attack. His directness almost brought about a goal after Savio saw two consecutive shots in the box saved by Zion Suzuki. He came close again with a volley from the edge of the box, but again Suzuki was on hand to make a save. 7.SubstitutesArchie Gray – Came on for Porro and pretty much picked up from where the Spaniard left off, with Gray offering much attacking threat and linking well with Savio on the right.
