‘James Bond’ Reboot Officially Casts New 007, Immediately Replaces Him With New Actor

Wait 5 sec.

Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming James Bond film reboot has dominated headlines over the past few weeks, with actors such as Jack Barton (Heartstopper) and Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) emerging as top contenders to take over as 007 from Daniel Craig following his five-film series.Craig first appeared as Bond in Casino Royale (2006), before returning in four sequels: Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021). Now, as has always been the case with 007, the character is being recast again and the continuity reset.Credit: MGM/EON ProductionsThe next actor will become the seventh to portray the character in the main Bond films, following Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. The untitled film, commonly referred to as James Bond 26, is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (the Dune trilogy), written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), and produced by Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) and David Heyman (the Harry Potter films). While the studio has yet to announce who the next Bond actor is, Amy Pascal has told Deadline that “the end of the year is a good bet,” while Steven Knight has implied that the actor has already been cast during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today program (via The Independent).Either way, it seems like we’ll be finding out relatively soon. As such, that means the new Bond casting will effectively replace one that has already happened: Patrick Gibson, who plays the character in IO Interactive’s video game 007 First Light (2026), which launched earlier this year.Credit: IO Interactive under license from Amazon MGM Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Eon ProductionsWhile there were no (known) plans for Gibson to lead Amazon MGM’s new era of Bond in film, he still marks the latest official 007 casting. Now, he’s set to be replaced almost immediately, with the film’s lead actor practically waiting in the wings.Meanwhile, another 007 has also been officially cast: Isaac Rouse (The Crown Season 6) will voice a teenage Bond during his time at Eton in the upcoming audio drama adaptation of Charlie Higson’s 2005 Young Bond novel SilverFin.That’s three different Bonds in the space of a year (Gibson’s casting was announced in late 2025). For now, at least we have two new 007 actors to keep us entertained while we wait for the big announcement.Who do you think the next Bond actor is?
