I know cloud subscription plans are not exactly the core focus of r/LocalLLaMA, so I want to be clear about why I’m posting this here. I’ve been building my own local text-based RPG/game harness and using external models as testing infrastructure: basically stress-testing the harness, finding errors, exposing weak spots, testing agent behavior, and comparing how different models interact with the system before relying more heavily on local models. For that purpose, I had been using StepFun quite heavily through their paid Step Plan / API access. My account had: An active paid subscription Around $15 in remaining API credits Existing billing/payment history Active usage as part of my development workflow And then, apparently without warning, all of it disappeared. The subscription, API credits, usage history and, more concerningly, my billing history appears to be gone too. The account now effectively behaves as if I never paid them. I’ve contacted StepFun support and asked them to restore the subscription, credits, and billing records and explain what happened, and heard nothing back. This is a reminder for how valuable owning AI locally is for me. I have been able to continue development at a lower speed, but completely reliably. So now I am more of a Local LLM believer than I have ever been before. Also a strong reminder that chinese companies do not respect the rule of law outside their own country. Just a small beware.
