How Tottenham could recoup their entire £237m summer spend through 10 player sales

Wait 5 sec.

Tottenham Hotspur have already committed around £237m on transfer fees this summer, but player sales could yet cover that entire outlay before the window closes.Within just two weeks of the summer transfer window opening, Tottenham appear to have completed the majority of their business, having already announced five signings, with another expected to follow shortly.Spurs have saved significantly on transfer fees by bringing in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka as free agents. However, the club have also spent heavily on three marquee additions. Jan Paul Van Hecke arrived from Brighton for £52m before Tottenham smashed their transfer record twice in the space of 24 hours, signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85m before agreeing a £100m move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is expected to be officially unveiled in the coming days. While £237m is an eye-catching figure, particularly from a PSR and Financial Fair Play perspective, Tottenham still want to strengthen their attack before the window closes. That means sales are expected to become the next priority, and the current squad contains enough value to comfortably recover that entire outlay.Credit: Michael AC Braithwaite / @ac_sports_photo10 players Tottenham could sell to recoup their £237m summer spending1. Cristian Romero (£55m)Jan Paul Van Hecke’s arrival has only increased speculation surrounding Cristian Romero’s future. Although reports have recently suggested the Argentine now wants to remain in North London, Ben Jacobs previously revealed Tottenham value him between £50m and £60m. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have all been credited with interest, while Romero’s father has revealed the defender has a release clause worth between £37.8m-£53m.2. Luka Vuskovic (£50m) (done deal)Widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young defenders, Luka Vuskovic is set to leave Tottenham without making a competitive appearance. Concerns over playing time saw him push for an exit before agreeing personal terms with Brighton. After rejecting three offers, Spurs accepted Brighton’s fourth proposal, reportedly worth £46m plus a sell-on clause that could take the package beyond £50m, according to Fabrizio Romano. Tottenham have also secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights on any future transfer.3. Lucas Bergvall (£45m)The arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali are understood to have concerned Bergvall over the amount of game time he would receive next season, with no European football to ease rotation. Reports claim the 20-year-old has formally informed Tottenham that he wants to leave and has since seen interest coming in from Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. Tottenham, however, have made it clear Bergvall is not for sale, with both De Zerbi and Johan Lange holding talks to reassure him he remains part of the club’s long-term plans. Should that stance change, Spurs would likely demand around £45m-£50m.4. Pape Matar Sarr (£25m)Should Bergvall stay, Sarr could become the more likely midfield departure. Signed from Metz for around £14.6m in 2021, the Senegal international has struggled to establish himself as a guaranteed starter under any of the seven managers he has worked under. Brentford were linked earlier this summer, while Napoli have also emerged as admirers as they look to reduce the average age of their squad. Spurs would expect to make a healthy profit, with a fee around £25m.5. Guglielmo Vicario (£15m)Vicario has been backed by several sources to leave Tottenham this summer, following the arrivals of Martin Dubravka as a backup goalkeeper and Antonin Kinsky’s promotion to the No.1 role next season. Inter Milan had already agreed personal terms with Vicario earlier this year but ultimately decided against meeting Tottenham’s £15m-20m asking price. Juventus have since been linked with the Italian, with Luciano Spalletti reportedly keen on a reunion with his former Empoli goalkeeper.6. Radu Dragusin (£20m)Radu Dragusin has struggled for regular football since joining from Genoa for £25m in January 2024, starting just 35 matches while injuries have also hampered his progress. Roma, RB Leipzig, Juventus and Fiorentina have all been linked, with Tottenham expected to seek around €20m (£17.4m) for the Romanian.7. Richarlison (£15m)Despite finishing as Tottenham’s top scorer last season with 12 goals, Richarlison could still depart as Spurs search for a more consistent striker. Since his £60m move from Everton in 2022, the Brazilian has missed 420 days through injury and scored only 32 goals across four seasons. Several outlets report Tottenham are willing to listen to offers, with Everton, MLS clubs, Saudi Arabian sides and Flamengo all credited with interest. A fee between £15m and £25m is thought to be realistic, depending on the buyer.8. Alejo Veliz (£7.7m) (done deal)Veliz already accounts for £7.7m of Tottenham’s summer income. Shortly after the January transfer window closed, Brazilian side Bahia agreed a €9m (£7.7m) deal for the striker following his loan spell at Rosario Central, with the transfer officially confirmed by the club a few days ago. Spurs also managed to retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement. 9. Manor Solomon (£8m)Having spent much of his Tottenham career out on loan since arriving on a free transfer in 2023, Solomon has already been informed by Roberto De Zerbi that he is not part of the head coach’s plans for next season and can look for a new club. Fiorentina hold an option to sign him permanently for around £8.7m following his loan spell, while a fee in the region of £8m would likely satisfy Spurs.10. Alfie Devine (£6m)Preston North End negotiated an option to buy Alfie Devine for around £6m when signing him on loan last summer. Alasdair Gold has reported that the Championship side have triggered that clause, although personal terms are still to be finalised. Should the move go through, Devine would become Preston’s record signing. It has now been weeks since that news first emerged, and we expect an update on the situation sooner rather than later.READ MORE: Sandro Tonali speaks on Tottenham move just before flying to London for his medicalThe post How Tottenham could recoup their entire £237m summer spend through 10 player sales appeared first on Spurs Web.
