Renowned media personality Douglas Lwanga has shared his perspective on why many young people fail to make productive use of funds received through various government empowerment programmes.According to Lwanga, the biggest challenge is that many beneficiaries are handed capital without first receiving proper mentorship, financial literacy, and business training to help them invest wisely and build sustainable ventures.Do you know why the capital that the government gives out to the youth is often misused? It’s simply because most of the young people who receive that capital are not prepared, trained, and mentored on how to effectively use the money. He noted that the lack of preparation leaves many youths vulnerable to poor financial decisions, resulting in the misuse of the funds instead of investing them in income-generating activities that could improve their livelihoods.Lwanga further criticized the common practice of arresting beneficiaries after they misuse the funds, arguing that such action addresses the consequences rather than the root cause of the problem.“After that, you get them arrested, which is not good. We treat the symptoms without going to the grassroots.”He urged the government and relevant authorities to prioritize mentorship, entrepreneurship training, and financial education before disbursing funds to young people. According to him, equipping beneficiaries with practical knowledge would greatly improve the effectiveness of youth empowerment programmes.Five new Ugandan music videos feat. He believes the initiative has great potential but says its implementation has been hindered by inadequate teacher preparation.I wouldn’t want to blame the government so much because they have done some good work by revising the school curriculum and encouraging students to acquire practical skills while still in school. The only challenge is that the teachers were not adequately trained to implement it.Giving young people money without first equipping them with skills is not a lasting solution.- Douglas Lwanga.#SanyukaBigendaBitya #SanyukaUpdates #FfeBannoDdala pic.twitter.com/PFYcGvXuYU— Sanyuka TV (@sanyukatv) July 3, 2026The post Why many Ugandan youths misuse government funding – Douglas Lwanga appeared first on MBU.
