It's July, and for Galaxy phone users in the USA, this month carries more significance than usual. Samsung Messages is being discontinued this month, and Google Messages is the official replacement.This isn't new. Samsung announced the discontinuation of its Messages app a few months ago and confirmed the transition would happen in July. The S26 series was the first in the USA to ship without Samsung Messages and block users from downloading the app from the Galaxy Store.In other words, if you're using a Galaxy S26, you don't need to worry. Other Galaxy users, however, should transition to Google Messages soon, preferably before July 6.What's next for Galaxy users in the USA?Samsung has tried to make the transition as seamless as possible. Once you install Google Messages and set it as your default messaging app, your conversations stored in Samsung Messages should transfer automatically.
