Sweden international Simon Thern has given an interesting response to the rumour he has heard about Roberto De Zerbi’s demands from Lucas Bergvall at Tottenham.Even though multiple reliable sources have reported that Tottenham have informed Bergvall they want him to stay, the midfielder has seemingly not been convinced. The 19-year-old started just one of the seven league matches under De Zerbi, and according to various reports, Bergvall remains determined to seek a new challenge away from Spurs. It is thought that the desire comes from the teenager’s desire to play regularly in his favourite number eight role.(Credit @thefrederikkejensen / Instagram)Lucas Bergvall told he should leave Tottenham rather than changing his styleIFK Varnamo midfielder Simon Thern has written a column praising Bergvall, particularly for his desire to always play forward.Reacting to suggestions that De Zerbi wants the midfielder to take fewer touches of the ball, the 33-year-old told his compatriot that he would be better off leaving Spurs rather than changing the way he plays.Thern wrote in Fotbollskanalen (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Incredible player. The speed and the desire to always move forward on the pitch makes me happy. Always tries to be fair. Heard talk about De Zerbi not liking players who take too many touches on the ball… stupidest thing I’ve ever heard!“Had the Tottenham coach left Messi out of the eleven then for the sake of ‘his’ system? For God’s sake, don’t change your playing style, Lucas! Because it’s cruel. Rather change teams if it becomes a ‘problem’.”Why selling Bergvall may be prudent for SpursAfter the end of last season, Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham admitted that Spurs need to be smarter in selling players than they have been over recent years.Bergvall’s situation is perhaps a clear demonstration of what Venkatesham was talking about. The midfielder undoubtedly has plenty of promise, and it is not impossible that he could evolve into a £100m player in around two or three years. However, if De Zerbi does not see him as a starter next season, then the Lilywhites may be better off selling him now rather than hanging onto him for one more year, in which case his value would drop.Selling Bergvall for around £45m-£50m along with a big sell-on clause may be the most prudent decision for the Lilywhites this summer.READ MORE: ‘The way he spoke’ – Mateus Fernandes opens up on De Zerbi phone call before Tottenham moveThe post ‘Stupidest thing I’ve ever heard’ – De Zerbi and Tottenham slammed for Lucas Bergvall rumour appeared first on Spurs Web.
