The Malta Rangers Unit said it filed four reports yesterday evening over loud music allegedly coming from the Noma Island vessel in Mellieħa Bay.In a post shared on social media, the Rangers said they were flooded with complaints from residents in Santa Maria Estate, who reported being unable to sleep due to loud music coming from the vessel late into the evening.According to the Malta Rangers Unit, Noma Island was berthed around 700 metres from the coast, yet the bass vibrations could still be felt from land. The Rangers said their first report was filed with Transport Malta at 7.15pm, after which they were told the vessel would be contacted. However, they claimed the music continued getting louder. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Between 7.15pm and 8.30pm, the Rangers said they filed another three reports, citing Notice to Mariners 115 of 2025, which they said prohibits loud music disturbances by commercial vessels. They added that Transport Malta repeatedly informed them that the skipper had been contacted and ordered to lower the volume, but claimed no sea assets were available at the time to enforce the order directly. At 9.35pm, the Rangers said they were informed that an inspector would be sent on site. However, according to their post, the party continued with loud music until around 11pm, leaving residents unable to sleep. The Malta Rangers Unit described the situation as “disgraceful”, arguing that a lack of enforcement resources at sea makes noise pollution rules difficult to apply effectively. They urged members of the public to report noise pollution from commercial vessels and called for more support to expand their operations. What do you make of this issue?Video credits to the Malta Rangers Unit•
