Rivian’s vehicle business is still working toward stronger profitability, but its software and services segment is already showing meaningful margins. As demand for automotive technology, connected vehicles, and autonomy continues to grow, this part of the business could become increasingly important to Rivian’s overall valuation. Rivian is also working with Volkswagen, which could give its software and technology business additional scale and opportunities beyond Rivian’s own vehicles. The bigger picture for me is simple: Cars bring customers in. Software and technology could create higher-margin, recurring revenue. If Rivian can successfully scale R2 production while continuing to grow its software business and technology partnerships, we could see the market place a higher value on the company over time.
