A 70-year-old Lincoln County foster mother who shipped a teenage girl in her care across state lines, in a scheme witnesses said was tied to a monkey, will spend exactly zero days in a Missouri prison for the felony she just admitted.Brenda Deutsch, 71, of Winfield, pleaded guilty to first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, a Class D felony, after an adopted teenage girl in her care was shipped off to a filthy Texas residence that Deutsch had allegedly never inspected, FOX 2 Now reported.On Thursday, Lincoln County Judge Thomas J. Frawley sentenced Deutsch to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, but then suspended the execution of that sentence and placed her on three years of supervised probation.In other words, Deutsch will remain out of prison unless she violates the terms of her probation.The probation conditions require Deutsch to have no contact with the victim, undergo mental-health treatment, and complete a cognitive behavioral intervention program.Deutsch reportedly spent 99 days in jail before her bond was reduced, according to arguments contained in her sentencing memorandum. She will serve no additional incarceration under the sentence unless her probation is revoked.FOX 2 Now reported that Judge Frawley called Deutsch’s conduct “reprehensible.” He revoked her foster license on the spot. He looked at the victims in the room and apologized because the State of Missouri left this woman licensed while the complaints piled up. Johnson said that was the child traded for the monkey.“I have the whole conversation on my phone, which I turned over to the detectives,” Johnson said.Johnson also supplied a picture of that monkey with her mother. What did her mother want with a monkey?“That’s what she did; she had at least seven monkeys,” she said. “That’s just her thing. But she wasn’t any nicer to those monkeys than she was to a child.”The alleged trade involved Deutsch sending a foster child to Texas – to a home she admitted in court she knew nothing about.FOX 2 also spoke with the victim, now 17 years old. First Alert 4 reported that sources said she had fostered more than 200 children.Wood told Oxygen the monkeys in her orbit lived in “five-star resort style lodgings” while the kids were “crammed into just like one closet room.”The case that finally cracked open did not start with Children’s Division doing its job. It started because a school resource officer in Winfield noticed a girl missing class in February 2025.Investigators then heard the rumor that should have ended her license years earlier: the child had been sent to Texas in exchange for an exotic animal.Two witnesses told investigators they were asked to haul the girl to Texas and bring a monkey back. Wood himself admitted early on they still had to determine whether that was a joke or an actual trade. “There’s some smoke there,” he said.The girl was found in Eastland County, Texas. Court records say she was left in unsanitary conditions, often alone for days, tending exotic animals.
