Everton have been told to consider signing free agent Jordan Ayew to help solve their striker crisis. The Toffees only have one natural striker in Thierno Barry in their squad having failed to sign a new forward on Deadline Day.Ayew, who last played in the Premier League for Leicester, is a free agentGettyMonaco’s Folarin Balogun was set to join the club until he pulled out of the deal after an issue in his medical was flagged.Meanwhile, enquiries for Joshua Zirkzee and Tammy Abraham were knocked back and Jamie Vardy has now joined Burnley.Ex-Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has also been offered to Everton, but it’s unclear whether they will follow it up.So, options are becoming limited and manager David Moyes has already admitted that they are looking at free agents. One of those free agents is former Leicester and Crystal Palace striker Ayew, who has played over 300 Premier League games.‘A very David Moyes player’After a list of players who are currently out of contract was read out, talkSPORT’s Perry Groves said: “Did you say Jordan Ayew? It’s about bodies, Premier League know-how. So you would [sign him].”talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook added: “He strikes me as a very David Moyes player, someone who’s not necessarily prolific but he works his socks off.”Groves then replied in agreement: “Exactly, yeah. He’s an option through the middle, out wide… “Everton is a massive club, it’s not like it’s a smaller club in the Championship. At Everton you’re going to be playing in front of 60,000-plus every home game. “It still has its draw and David Moyes is a top manager.”Ayew was relegated in back-to-back seasons with Leicester before leavingGettyAyew’s tough Leicester spellAyew left Leicester at the end of last season as his contract expired following back-to-back relegations with the Foxes. He was part of the squad that dropped down from the Premier League in 2024 and then the Championship last term.Across 80 games in all competitions for Leicester, the striker scored just 12 goals and provided four assists.During his most recent season in the top flight, which was the 2024/25 campaign, he scored five in 30 matches. In total though, across spells with the Foxes, Crystal Palace and Swansea City, he’s scored 42 Premier League goals. The 122-cap Ghana international has 67 goal contributions across his 305 top-flight outings.Moyes has been left scratching his head over his search for a strikerGettyWho else is available on a free? talkSPORT’s Crook mentioned Ayew as he listed some of the bigger names currently on the free agent market.Moyes said on Friday before a dramatic 2-2 draw against Man United: “We’re looking at the free agents’ market, but I want a team that can be at the top end and can challenge.”Martial is one of the options available, while ex-Real Madrid and Stoke City striker Joselu is also out of contract. Mauro Icardi could be another option with the Argentine leaving Galatasaray at the end of last season after four years in Turkey.Wilfried Zaha, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba are some other of the star free agents available. But with a striker the focus, options are slimming for Moyes and Everton, so could Ayew be the solution?
