Few actors are as synonymous with a horror character as Jamie Lee Curtis is with Laurie Strode. Now, her version of the “final girl” is set to return in an official new Halloween installment.Curtis first faced Michael Myers (Nick Castle) in 1978 and returned for Halloween II (1981), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002), and the David Gordon Green trilogy, Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and Halloween Ends (2022).Credit: Universal Pictures / Blumhouse Productions / MiramaxBetween those timelines, however, the franchise was rebooted with Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009), with Scout Taylor-Compton playing Laurie. The same can be said about Donald Pleasence, who portrayed Dr. Samuel Loomis across five films in the original Halloween series, before he was portrayed by Malcolm McDowell in the two Rob Zombie films. As for Michael Myers, he has been played by numerous actors, including Nick Castle, Dick Warlock, George P. Wilbur, Chris Durand, Tyler Mane, and James Jude Courtney. It’s a franchise that has repeatedly rewritten its own history, with different films choosing which chapters to acknowledge and which to leave behind. Now, Laurie, Michael, and Loomis are about to enter a new era — and surprisingly, it isn’t happening on the big screen.Credit: Compass International Pictures / Falcon International ProductionsIllFonic’s upcoming asymmetrical multiplayer title Halloween: The Game essentially acts as a remake of John Carpenter’s original 1978 film, particularly through its story campaign, where players will be able to control Michael Myers himself as he escapes Smith’s Grove Sanitarium and begins his killing spree across Haddonfield, giving us more of “the night he came home.”The game centers on Carpenter’s original film, ignoring all the sequels that followed. Those in doubt that the game is a remake of the 1978 film should check out the new launch trailer below:The game allows players to either take on the role of a civilian character or, again as Michael Myers. Among the playable “Heroes of Haddonfield” characters are some familiar faces from the 1978 film: Laurie Strode, Annie Brackett, Lynda van der Klok, and Bob Simms.Annie, Lynda, and Bob are voiced by Kaitlyn Robrock, Angela Carbone, and Nicholas Leung, respectively, while Chelsea Krause brings Laurie Strode to life, essentially replacing Jamie Lee Curtis while preserving the original 1978 iteration of the beloved and iconic final girl character.Dr. Loomis appears alongside those characters, while two actors from the previous Halloween films have returned.Colin Mahan, who provided the voice work for Loomis in Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills, once again returns to voice the character, while Nick Castle provides a motion-capture performance as Michael Myers alongside stuntman/actor TJ Storm. The official description for Halloween: The Game states:“Boogeyman or Hero: The Boogeyman is out. Team up in a 1v4 asymmetrical horror showdown on everyone’s favorite night of the year. Choose to save the quiet town of Haddonfield from bloodshed as a Hero of Haddonfield or stalk and terrorize the residents as Michael Myers.”The game officially launches on September 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).
