Mysuru hosts march for total animal liberation - The HinduPublished - September 05, 2026 09:37 pm IST - MYSURUParticipants at the Animal Liberation March organised against the use and exploitation of animals for various purposes, in Mysuru on Saturday. | Photo Credit: M.A. SriramHundreds of people gathered in front of the old Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday and took part in the Animal Liberation March, calling for an end to the use and exploitation of animals for food, clothing, entertainment and other purposes.The march and subsequent demonstration focused on total animal liberation rather than merely improving animal welfare standards. Participants raised slogans and carried placards bearing messages supporting animal liberation.The march proceeded to Town Hall before returning to the old Deputy Commissioner office.Vasudha, one of the organisers, highlighted the continued use of horses for transportation in Mysuru despite the availability of modern vehicles. “Animals are not here to serve humans and they are not our slaves. It is high time society collectively changed its mindset and moved beyond what we were taught in childhood,” she said.According to a press release, the messages attracted curiosity among onlookers. Activists also distributed leaflets on animal rights, plant-based nutrition and alternatives to animal-based products.The activists urged people to recognise animals as sentient beings and called for an end to their exploitation.Though Mysuru has witnessed protests and demonstrations against animal exploitation in the past, the organisers, in the release, claimed that Saturday’s demonstration in the city attracted many participants.
