Two people have been arrested after police allegedly witnessed a suspected drug deal in the Marsamxett area of Valletta, before the driver attempted to flee and crashed his vehicle.The incident took place on Friday while officers were carrying out patrols and noticed a Skoda Fabia suspected of being used in connection with drug trafficking.Police followed the vehicle before it stopped, at which point officers reportedly observed what appeared to be a drug deal taking place between several people. When police moved in to make an arrest, the 26-year-old driver, a Marsaskala resident, allegedly fled in the vehicle and began driving dangerously.He was eventually stopped further along the road after crashing. A 19-year-old woman from Mosta was also inside the vehicle, and both were subsequently arrested.A search of the car reportedly uncovered several packets of suspected synthetic cannabis, around €1,000 in cash and two mobile phones.Both are being held by police to assist with the ongoing investigation.The 26-year-old man is expected to be arraigned in court at around 9:30am today before Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia.•
