California shipper SOMERSET WEST (f, 3, Kantharos–Constantia, by Munnings) got rolling through the final sixteenth at Kentucky Downs and swept past the leading quartet to upset the GII Ainsworth Music City Stakes Saturday at odds of 19-1.The Keith Abrahams homebred has been on a roll of late for trainer John Sadler, breaking her maiden two back at Santa Anita going 6 1/2 furlongs then stepping right up to win the one-mile GII San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar July 18. Saturday marked her first start outside of California.Drawn in gate seven on the cutback again to 6 1/2, Somerset West was nearly last from the gate as a handful of early sprinters, let by Light Won Up (City of Light), sorted themselves out up front while 1-2 race favorite Cy Fair (Not This Time) got shuffled back to the middle of the field along the rail.Whipping-in the compact main group, Somerset West had clear sailing outside and began to loom five wide as the sprint for the wire began. Light Won Up and Sapphire Beach (Ire) (No Nay Never) hit the final furlong together but had challengers coming on all sides with Ground Support (Army Mule) and Lion Lake (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) all surging late.Absolutely rolling down the center of the course though, Somerset West got past them all in the nick of time, lunging in the final strides to spring the upset under Luis Saez. Cy Fair had a brief gap at the sixteenth pole but couldn't go through it and finished off the board. Lifetime Record: 6-3-2-0.O/B-Keith Abrahams; T-John Sadler.
