Bomb disposal specialists were called to Ħamrun yesterday afternoon after a suspected explosive device was discovered on a pavement along Qormi Road.The Armed Forces of Malta said it received a report from the Malta Police Force regarding the suspicious device on Friday afternoon.AFM Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel were immediately dispatched to the area to assess the situation.Meanwhile, police established a safety cordon around the scene as specialist personnel carried out the necessary procedures to protect members of the public and the surrounding area.Following an assessment and verification process, the AFM said Improvised Explosive Device Disposal procedures were carried out to render the area safe.No further details have been released about the nature of the suspected device or how it came to be on the pavement.The Armed Forces thanked the Malta Police Force and all personnel involved for their “cooperation and professionalism throughout the operation”.Photo credits to @armedforcesofmalta_afm•
