Set in 1930s New York, the series followed Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator forced to confront his past as the city’s only superhero after a personal tragedy.Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, with the series scoring 92% from critics and 90% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, while its 11 Emmy nominations made it Prime Video’s most-nominated series this year. However, the show failed to generate much lasting buzz with audiences and quickly dropped off the streamer’s daily Top 10 ranking – likely a key factor in Sony’s decision not to make Season 2.Credit: Sony PicturesAnother probable factor was the show’s production costs. While neither Sony nor Amazon has disclosed the exact budget, Spider-Noir filmed in both color and black and white, meaning it was hardly a cheap project to produce.More ‘Spider-Man’ Projects Are in DevelopmentBut it’s not all doom and gloom for Spider-Man on the small screen.Multiple projects within the superhero’s universe remain in development under their partnership, with one reportedly nearing a series order. Plot details are still under wraps, but each show is expected to debut on MGM+ before heading to Prime Video.In better news for Sony’s Spider-Man prospects, Brand New Day has been a box-office phenomenon. Feige said there are “always plans” when asked about another film with the actor (via Variety), adding that Brand New Day leads into “more Spider-Man films.” Pascal has also discussed Spider-Man 5, although Sony and Marvel have yet to formally announce a timeframe for the project.Holland isn’t expected to appear in this December’s Avengers: Doomsday. Rumors suggest that fans may see another version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man pop up in the film – specifically, Tobey Maguire’s take on the superhero.
