The two-for-two colt became the second stakes scorer and first at group/graded level worldwide for the former U.S. Horse of the Year and Lane's End resident (by Tapit).The colt, who set a record for juveniles over this trip of firm Hakodate turf in 1:47.60 when breaking his maiden in July, went off at 10 cents on the dollar on Saturday.Sent from the bell, Shonan Galleon soon settled in a stalking second as Cosmo Hanamizuki (Jpn) (Win Bright {Jpn}) went to the lead. Headstrong turning onto the backstretch, he shook off Hayabusa Katsu O (Jpn) (Saturnalia {Jpn}), who'd briefly kept him company going into the first turn. In a nice rhythm as the pacesetter covered 1200 meters in 1:14, the bay clawed away that foe's advantage after 1600 meters in 1:36.20. Taking charge from there, he cruised home an easy-as-you-please winner without ever being asked a serious question while covering his final 600 in a race-best :35.9. Cosmo Hanamizuki hung around for second, a length better than Desert Spirit (Jpn) (Isla Bonita {Jpn}) in third.“I thought I could win if things went smoothly, so I was focused only on that,” winning jockey Katsuma Sameshima told NetKeiba. “As soon as I settled in second place at the first and second corners, I thought I wouldn't lose.
