Krystian Bielik should be handed a season-long ban for appearing to grab a young Portsmouth fan by the neck. That’s the view of talkSPORT presenter Sam Matterface as the Cardiff City defender faces a sanction from the Football Association (FA).Bielik is facing FA action for an incident involving a Portsmouth fanFootage appears to show Bielik grabbing a Portsmouth supporter’s neck during their Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon. The incident at Fratton Park occurred when the Cardiff man, on loan from West Brom, attempted to retrieve the ball from the crowd.Cardiff boss Brian Barry-Murphy claimed that Bielik had been slapped in the face during the altercation, with Portsmouth manager John Mousinho apologising for what happened.talkSPORT understands that the FA are ‘aware’ of the incident and have been awaiting the match report from referee Ben Speedie.Hampshire Police are also investigating, and Matterface believes that Bielik should be suspended for the rest of the 2026/27 season.Bielik should be ‘banned for the season’“He’s going to get a hefty ban, and rightly so,” talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook said on Premier League All Access.“I don’t think he should play again this season,” Matterface replied, to which former Premier League striker Troy Deeney added: “I played with him at Birmingham City and trust me, if that kid would have just farted near him, he would have s*** himself. “I cannot believe that you could grab a fan. Trust me, in my day, I’ve wanted to. I’ve had people do all sorts and say all sorts. You can’t grab a fan.”“All this lad did was chuck the ball over his head,” Crook insisted. “He made him look a fool, nothing more. There was nothing malicious about what the kid did.”Deeney explained: “I think he should be reprimanded the right way. For the first time ever, I’d actually ask for FA Sam to get involved, because he’d make sure this was done properly.”Matterface has called for Bielik to miss the rest of the seasonGetty“Yeah, I would,” Matterface responded. “I wouldn’t let him play again this season, because I think there are certain rules. “I think there are rules about fans not engaging with the players, I don’t think that can happen. Or managers, everyone’s safety on the pitch has to be paramount. “But similarly, you have to make sure that it works the other way as well. Especially if you’re talking about a child. “Now, I don’t know how old the kid was… but the fact of the matter is, is that he’s thrown the ball over his head, he’s having a bit of a laugh and a joke. “It’s banter, it’s football banter. My word, that happens up and down the country every single week. I mean, get over yourself. “To grab anyone around the neck is absolutely outrageous. To grab a child in that manner borders on criminal, actually.”Police are also investigating the incidentShutterstock Editorial“As someone who knows the criminal justice system, it actually is criminal,” Deeney confirmed.Matterface then concluded: “I wonder what will happen to him but, for me, that’s it, he shouldn’t play again this season.”Portsmouth won the match 2-0 and sit 14th in the Championship, whilst Cardiff are winless in 22nd.
