Mykhailo Mudryk has plenty to prove during his season at Tottenham Hotspur, but his time in North London could yet extend beyond the initial loan spell.After deals for Cody Gakpo and then Iliman Ndiaye fell through towards the end of the summer transfer window, Spurs surprisingly turned to Mykhailo Mudryk on deadline day after Chelsea made the winger available on loan. It was certainly an unexpected move given that the Ukrainian had not played a competitive game of football since November 2024 due to a doping ban, which was lifted only earlier this summer.Perhaps the move is a little less surprising given the ‘father-son’ bond Roberto De Zerbi and Mudryk share. The option is there, and if Mykhailo Mudryk comes in and hits the ground running for Tottenham and really impresses, then there is a possibility that they could take up that option to sign the Ukrainian for £75million, which is a huge fee.“Obviously, he’s linking up with his old Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto De Zerbi, who will be confident that he can get the best out of Mudryk.”Football Insider added that sources tell them Roberto De Zerbi will have the final say on whether Tottenham spend £75million on Mudryk.‘He is not ready yet’ – Roberto De Zerbi on Mykhailo MudrykDe Zerbi had already warned on Friday that Mudryk ‘needs time to be able to start’, although the Ukrainian played 15 minutes against Nottingham Forest.Mudryk eventually came on for Mathys Tel in the 74th minute to make his first competitive appearance in 21 months. The winger had limited time to make an impact in the goalless draw at the City Ground, managing just 4 touches of the ball.Speaking after the game, De Zerbi explained why Mudryk still has some way to go before he is ready to play a bigger role.“He is not ready yet. He is working to reach the best physical condition. He needs time, he needs work. In that position, we have Mathys Tel, big potential. But also Mathys takes too many wrong decisions, and Mudryk.
