Shivakumar addressing a public meeting after launching the Praja Seva initiative at Kudligi in Vijayanagara district on Saturday.On Teachers’ Day, the Karnataka government has issued an order allowing use of prefix “Tr” before names of teachers, on the lines of “Dr” for doctors and “Prof” for professors.The order states that the decision is in recognition of teachers’ contribution to “progress and educational upliftment of society.” It highlights multiple contributions of teachers — ranging from career guidance and instilling confidence among students to upholding Constitutional values and building a scientific temper.Earlier in the day, speaking at the launch of the Praja Seva Department in Kudligi in Vijayanagara district on Saturday, which coincided with Teachers’ Day, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had called for the new convention of prefixing “Tr” before teachers’ names.Chief Minister D.K. Their contribution to society, he said, deserved greater recognition and respect, similar to the recognition accorded to professionals such as doctors and professors.“There are more than 4.5 lakh teachers in Karnataka.
