University, Davangere, will introduce nine undergraduate programmes in health and allied health sciences in the academic year 2026-27, aiming to meet the growing demand for trained personnel in the healthcare sector.Speaking at a press conference in Davangere on Saturday, Pratheeksha C., assistant professor, G.M. Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research Centre, said the programmes were designed to provide students with theoretical knowledge, practical training, and clinical exposure in various healthcare disciplines.The programmes include Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT), Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS), Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (BND), Bachelor of Psychology (BPsy), Bachelor of Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology (BMRIT), Bachelor of Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology (BAOTT), and Bachelor of Dialysis Therapy Technology (BDTT).She said the BPT programme would train students in injury management, mobility-related disorders, pain management and rehabilitation, while BOT would focus on helping people with physical, mental, and developmental challenges achieve greater independence in their daily activities.The Optometry programme would cover vision assessment, detection of visual disorders, and eye-care management. BMLS would provide training in clinical laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing of blood, urine, and other samples. The Nutrition and Dietetics programme would focus on food, nutrition, clinical nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices.The Psychology programme would cover human behaviour, emotions, and psychological processes and would provide a foundation for higher studies and careers in areas such as healthcare, education, community services, and research.The BMRIT programme would provide training in medical imaging technologies, including X-ray, CT and MRI. The AOTT programme would focus on operating theatre procedures, surgical assistance, anaesthesia-related technical support, equipment maintenance, and theatre management. The BDTT programme would provide training in dialysis procedures and patient care.Assistant professor Mohammed Yousuf M.D. said the programmes would include practical and experiential learning, clinical exposure, research, and innovation, supported by modern infrastructure and experienced faculty.He said the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences would also encourage students to identify healthcare-related challenges and work towards practical solutions, with an emphasis on professional ethics and community-oriented healthcare.Veera Gangadhar Swamy T.M., Dean of Marketing and Promotion, Anusha B.N., assistant professor, and Vasanth Kumar G.S., public relations officer, were present.The last date to apply for admission is September 30.
