We had to deal with a pretty similar situation(Minnesota to Florida)all said and done I think we spent about $2k. It was 2 years ago so gas is a bit more but still...And then the holes show up. We also had to do it suddenly days after a hurricane displaced a ton of people so there was no finding and booking a cheap hotel ahead of time like it seems like they could easily do, that would probably save hundreds as well.
