Barcelona are reportedly “exploring” the possibility of signing Manchester City star Rodri, who is also the subject of interest from Real Madrid, in the summer transfer window. Real have been working on a deal to capture the midfielder after he played a key role in Spain’s FIFA World Cup win this summer. City are believed to want €75 million (£64.3m) for the 30-year-old, who has just 12 months left to run on his contract and does not appear to want to renew terms. Barcelona battle Real Madrid for Rodri transferAccording to The Athletic, Barcelona are “exploring a deal” for Rodri and have held talks with the player’s camp over potentially signing him this summer. It is claimed that Barcelona’s playing style “appeals” to Rodri, while he would also be reunited with a number of players from the Spain squad with whom he has enjoyed great success over the past few years. Barça will need to fend off historic rivals Real to sign Rodri, however. Los Blancos remain interested in a deal for the player and don’t expect personal terms to be an issue, though negotiations with City over a transfer fee “were yet to be sorted”. Barcelona, who have already spent a lot of money to sign Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, are looking into signing Rodri after Frenkie de Jong suffered a serious knee ligament injury. The Catalan outfit “need” to sell players to free up space and be in a strong financial position to make the deal happen. Rodri hinted at the possibility of one day playing for Real back in March, stating that he would like to playing in his home country again.
