Microsoft is finally bringing Platinum Achievements to the Xbox

Wait 5 sec.

Xbox has just announced a slew of neat quality-of-life improvements for Xbox users, but the one that got everyone hyped was the long-awaited Platinum Achievements feature. Xbox has always had its own achievements—heck, it pretty much invented the thing—but it was the PlayStation that perfected the concept by introducing the Platinum Trophy. It’s the hardest to achieve, the one that supposedly proves you’ve totally mastered a game. Xbox has always had a simpler system where your achievements grant you Gamerscore points, so you get to boast about one total instead of an extensive collection of incredibly rare trophies. The verdict on which one gamers find more impressive was given nearly twenty years ago. I’ve previously written at length about my disdain for trophies, achievements, and all sorts of immersion-breaking gimmicks that overly gamify our games. Still, they’re a staple of modern gaming, and it was Microsoft that massively popularized them with the Xbox 360. It has always struck me as odd that Microsoft had ignored the advent of the PlayStation’s Platinum trophy, the most important achievement of all, the one that none of your friends can seem to stop gloating about, for so long. This might not mark as big a victory in the console wars as Halo becoming playable on PlayStation, but it’s good to see that Microsoft is giving players what they want. To accompany the announcement of the Platinum Achievements, Xbox also unveiled an expanded wishlist, better cloud functionalities, and more voice chat options. New console features are rolling out to XBOX insiders!💬Voice chat in game captures🏆 New ways to view achievements☁️ More control over cloud saves🎮 More games on wishlistRead more about these upcoming features: https://t.co/eBIUKNYxko— XBOX (@XBOX) August 5, 2026 And I’m in no way a Microsoft or Xbox fan, but I’d like for any Xbox or Microsoft-adjacent person reading this to remember just how viciously the PlayStation (rightfully) lambasted the Xbox One’s original terrible set of policies, and challenge you to do even better now that physical media is under attack. Now that’d be a worthy Platinum Achievement.0The post Microsoft is finally bringing Platinum Achievements to the Xbox appeared first on Destructoid.
